Why do teachers need to deliver online learning in the K-12 classroom?

In traditional classroom-based education, teachers control students and provide them with course materials when needed. However, with the recent advent of technologies, the educational industry has undergone a major shift in the way teachers impart education to their students. What has been observed is the increasing use of technology to meet the needs of K12 students to prepare them for success in the global economy. Online learning plays a significant role in this transformation as both teachers and students participate equally to get an enriching learning experience.

In this article, I have tried to review some of the factors that have led to such a significant shift from classroom-style learning to online technology learning.

student performance

K-12 classrooms that have used or begun to implement web-based learning have seen positive changes in the form of better student performance. Teachers can now take online tests to understand students’ individual learning style. From the collected data, teachers can modify the course to enable students to learn better. Therefore, online learning helps teachers create an educational program that suits students and their educational needs. Educators can also capture and record each student’s performance data for later data analysis.

Student participation

Online learning leads to greater student engagement than ever before. It is because the students get the chance to talk to the faculty in real time without waiting hours until they can finally talk face to face with their teachers. Most of the lecturers have set up online forums and communities to allow their students to join. Within the forum, students can discuss, ask questions, and share their learning materials and courses with others. Moreover, the teachers will be available 24/7 to answer their questions and clear any doubts related to the lesson or assessment work.

student achievement

Traditional classroom teaching does not provide quite the same scope for learning and information processing as web-based learning. This modern, technology-based method helps students to actively engage in activities and tasks related to their classes and programmes. According to many lecturers, online learning not only helps to find an answer to a question but also develops the theoretical thinking behind that answer. Thus, web-based learning can help enhance student achievement by helping them develop a deeper understanding of the concepts being taught.

factors for teachers

With the introduction of technology into the educational sector, the role of teachers has also changed. In traditional classrooms, teachers used to play the typical role of lecturer, talking about the concept, asking questions to the learners and finally giving homework for the next day. However, technology has made a paradigm shift from traditional teacher-based knowledge transfer to student-centered teaching to meet the educational requirements of learners. Teachers nowadays place more emphasis on customizing content to meet the needs of individual students.
